Nope, did my own investigation. The one on the driver side definitely is operated by a powered gear. When I force it closed, I can hear the gears. After driving, it just re-opens and seems to stay open. At least after I park and look again. The passenger side can also be adjusted but it’s manual.
I leveraged Chat GTP to also confirm. At first it said there was an active vent but I asked it to provide its source and it displayed a part diagram related to the front bumper.
I have yet to find any criteria the system uses to open and close but I was able to confirm that it prefers open always when the engine is off. even in the freezing temperatures we are experiencing here in SE PA.
seems poorly thought out and thrown in late in design to address a potential problem if you ask me.
Whatever the case, this is our first Hyundai and we love it! I can afford a higher end BMW X7 but the refinement, luxury and value in the Palisade, gives me no reason to even consider something more expensive.
