  • The new Hyundai Palisade SUV has been priced from $32,595, undercutting its Kia Telluride sibling by $140.
  • The top-of-the-line Palisade Limited costs $45,745 and comes with a ton of luxury-minded features like ventilated seats and a 10.3-inch touchscreen.
  • Both the Palisade and the Telluride are powered by a 291-hp V-6 and can be had with all-wheel drive.

Hyundai's new three-row Palisade SUV is being positioned as the more luxury-oriented alternative to its sibling the Kia Telluride, and it sits at the top of Hyundai's SUV lineup. But in a slightly surprising turn of events, the Palisade will be cheaper than the Telluride when it hits dealerships in the very near future. The base SE trim is priced from $32,595, which is $140 less than the Telluride's $32,735 base price.

Even at $32,595, the front-drive Palisade SE is very well equipped. It comes as standard with driver-assistance features like automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assist, as well as a host of convenience items such as power-folding second-row seats, an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and projector headlights with LED running lights.

The mid-range SEL model costs $34,545 and brings things like blind-spot assist, rear cross-traffic alert, heated front seats, keyless entry and pushbutton start, and dual-zone climate control. The SEL is available with a package that adds some of the luxury and convenience features from the Limited, but pricing for the package has not been released.

At the top of the Palisade range sits the $45,745 Limited. It adds a 360-degree camera, a head-up display, a digital gauge cluster, a heated steering wheel, LED head- and taillights, more power features for the front seats (as well as ventilation), a larger 10.3-inch central touchscreen with navigation, self-leveling rear suspension, a Harmon Kardon sound system, a panoramic sunroof, and a whole lot more. The Limited also gets special styling cues like aluminum-look exterior accents, 20-inch wheels, and fancier leather upholstery.

All-wheel drive is a $1700 option and is available on all three trim levels. The base Palisade SE can only be had with an eight-seat layout, while the Limited is strictly a seven seater. The mid-range SEL is the only Palisade trim that is available with either seating setup.

Not only is the Palisade super close in price to the Telluride, but it's nearly identical to some other competitors, too. The 2019 Honda Pilot starts at just $100 less than the Palisade SE and isn't as well equipped, and the base Subaru Ascent is $375 pricer than the Palisade. When fully loaded at $47,445, the Palisade is just $910 more than the top-end Telluride, and it has a bunch exclusive features that aren't available on the Kia like the digital gauge cluster.

The Palisade and the Telluride ride on the same front-wheel-drive-based platform and both use a 3.8-liter V-6 that makes 291 horsepower and is mated to an eight-speed automatic. The Telluride is slightly longer and wider, but both SUVs have the same wheelbase. While the AWD versions of the two SUVs have the same EPA fuel-economy ratings, the front-drive Palisade gets 1 mpg fewer on the combined and city cycles.
