OK. I had set my Dash Cam up to record while driving with recordings set to 1 minute intervals. It worked for a while. Then one day a friend was following me and was nearly in an accident. I wanted to down load that event - but I could not find the file for that time period. In fact, nothing was recorded for the whole 20 minute drive, at least not that I could find. After several drives, I found that some drives were recorded and some were not. Something was wrong. I started checking my Dash Cam from time to time for a couple of days. I found that some drives were recorded but none of them were in 1 minute intervals. One day, I made a 90+ mile drive I had a 96 minute recording going, but I had nothing on the drive coming back!
I took the car to the shop for an unrelated reason and lo and behold, when I brought this up to the service advisor he said that he didn't even know that the vehicle had an integrated Dash Cam because no one had ever had their car in the shop for an issue with a Dash Cam. Anyway, we scheduled an appointment for a time when I could get a loaner vehicle because they knew they would have to figure this out with their support. Fair enough.
OK, that happened last week and I am getting my car back from the shop tomorrow. But here's the deal.
They are telling me that Hyundai has completed an over the air "update" to the Dash Cam system that has eliminated the 1 minute interval recording. All recordings for Record While Driving will be a single recording from start to finish of any particular drive. In order to get a file in the event a download is needed, you may need to download a huge as**d file. And I have no idea what happens when it starts overlapping.
They said that a new owner's operator manual is being issued, but the copy that Hyundai sent the the tech at the dealership did not even include or address this supposed change. They said that they checked other vehicles on their lot and other cars in the shop and that every Palisade with a built in Dash Cam has been changed. They also told me all of their drives were recorded, so I don't know why I had pauses or lapses in recorded drives but maybe I just didn't know what I was looking at with the changes in having multiple 1 minute files and then just a couple of really long files that only showed the front view of when the drive just began. I dunno. Maybe I just need to learn the system a little better maybe.
But was I the only person who was not aware of this change? We really like the car and we are happy with the choice of the 2026 Palisade, but this really makes me not so happy.
