Are you like me and were very disappointed with the appearance of the factory trailer hitch being offered by Hyundai for the new 2020 Palisade? If so, I've found the perfect trailer hitch solution for you! This week I spent a day in Atlanta working with a company named Stealth Hitches to develop a hidden trailer hitch for the Palisade! The CEO Steve Nance and his team did an amazing job designing, building and installing a hitch for the Palisade that is virtually invisible when not in use! See the attached pictures of the Palisade with the hitch installed, but not towing and then the pictures of the Palisade ready to tow! To learn all about this incredible hitch, now available for the 2020 Palisade, please check out their website https://stealthhitches.com/. If you have any questions about this hitch, please contact Steve Nance directly at 770-815-6300 or steve@stealthhitches.com. Good luck with your new Palisade and happy towing!

I said it wouldn’t be long until some company improved on the Hyundai answer to a towbar set-up. This edition seems to have done quite well at that with interchangeable ball mount AND receiver (for bike racks and such).

I'm a very particular engineer and couldn't have been more impressed with their hitch system and the installation on the Palisade! It completely exceeded my expectations!

Bruce, Looks to be a nice solution. Is it rated at 5000 lbs? It looks like you did the towing PLUS the receiver option, is that correct? what is the advantage to the towing option (the part with the ball plugging in directly) vice just having a receiver than using a standard arm and ball? Am speculating form their video a tighter fit, but....trying to understand if I would want both.

While peppering with questions, the video indicates that the tow piece (or receiver) just plugs into the base bar. It sounds from your post that it is a very secure fit and you are confident in it's integrity?

Assume you had them install, did they have to pull the bumper (or cover) off or is it a straight bolt on?

Finally, would did you do for a tow harness, the standard Hyundai or was that an extra at stealth?

I will e-mail them as well, but always like an independent viewpoint.

Thanks for the find.

I for one would be interested! I just left Steve a voicemail, I’m looking to do the following setup:
  • Tow an Apex Aano 193BHS -approx 4100 pounds max when loaded
  • Tongue weight is 400 lbs
  • Would need to use an Anderson 3380 or equivalent weight distribution/sway control
  • Bottom of apex nano trailer ball hitch mount: 20.5 inches, the Anderson hitch has a max of 11” rise. I would probably only need 8-9 inches with the OEM hitch

The hitch is rated 5000 lbs. Steath Hitch only recommends towing with the towing receiver for a variety of reasons. I did buy both the towing receiver and an accessory receiver. The fit, finish, easy of use of their system is exceptional and the build and install they did on the Palisade is really well done. It has about 1/4" of space between the spare tire and the hitch as well as the rear fascia and the hitch. I've towed with it and it tows beautifully and I have full confidence it it's integrity.

The Stealth Hitch team installed mine as part of the development of the hitch for the Palisade. They did not have to remove the bumper and I think a I reasonably handy person could install it. You have to lower the muffler from a couple of hangers, lower the spare, remove the black plastic cover on the drivers side rear to be ready to install the hitch. Then it just bolts to the frame. I know Stealth has a network of installers around the country, but any trailer hitch shop could install it no problem.

The tow harness is another matter/issue. Unfortunately our friends at Hyundai only prewired this vehicle for a flat four pin connection. Installing and wiring a 7 pin connector is a bit of a task. I ended up buying and using the factory wiring harness from Hyundai and ran those 4 wires into a 7 pin. Then pulled 12V from the battery to the 7 pin. I'm planning to use a new electric brake controller from Curt called Echo. It interfaces with your smart phone and required no wiring under the dash.

Working with Steve Nance and his team on the development of this hitch for the Palisade was a real pleasure.

That is great feedback to hear! I chatted with steve today, great guy, and was curious on your particular towing experience. I was planning on towing a 4,100 pound travel trailer, with a tongue weight of about 410 pounds. Even with the auto-leveling suspension and driving it for 3-4 miles it was down alot on the rear about 1 1/2 inches. Since my trailer is about 22' off the ground, the factory OEM hitch needs at least a 9-11' riser to line up to the height of the travel trailer. If the stealth hitch can serve somewhat of a weight distribution and offset some of the weight, it might be what I need! Any info on your towing experience would be super helpful. Attached is a picture of the rear dropping down 1 1/2 inches after hitching up.

Bruce, Very helpful info above, thanks. The install sounds about the same as the Hyundai system, but it does seem to bolt to a different location. Thanks

In reviewing the install directions on the Hyundai OEM hitch, I'm 99% sure that the Stealth Hitch bolts to the same locations on the rear of the frame.

Spoke to Steve last week and ordered the Hitch. My hitch is arriving this Wednesday. Looked at the instructions and they seem very easy, will let you once i do the install :). Anyone know where the wiring harness connects to the car? I can not find any info on it plus do we have to get any thing programmed by the dealer afterwords like the german cars?
Thanks

The factory wiring harness is located behind a black plastic cover on the drivers rear of the vehicle. If you look at the installation instructions for the factory hitch that are elsewhere on this forum, it will show you how to remove that cover and get access to the connector to connect the factory harness. I bought and installed the factory 4 pin wiring harness $150 from Hyundai as part of my installation. It connects to the vehicle via a 12 pin connector. Then on the wiring harness there is some box that takes in six conductors and outputs the 4 pin flat connector. I don't know what that box is or does, but I didn't want to circumvent it. I used the 4 pin flat conductors to integrate into a 7 pin connector and pulled 12V from the battery directly to the 7 pin. I bought a Curt Echo brake controller and will be using that to control the trailer brakes. This controller is smart phone based and I didn't have to install a controller under the dash or open up the wiring under the dash to try to find and tap into the brake lead needed for most brake controllers. The vehicle did not need any programing after the wiring harness was installed. Good luck with the stealth hitch install.

Thank you so much for the Info Bruce. I be only towing two PWC's so i don't need breaks. I looked at the instructions and they look simple. Looking forward to installing the hitch this weekend. Will update on my install :)

Ok so this Saturday i installed the Stealth hitch with the help of my son. If you have the right tools its a very easy job and it fits like a Glove. Very impressed with the quality and installation instructions! Now have to go buy my two jetski's next week and will share the pictures towing :)

Thanks for all your help guys.

What about security? Can just anyone go and take off the receiver super easy or is there some sort of way to lock that as well?

You can lock the receiver using a locking hitch pin, but since the receiver will only fit on this type of hidden hitch I'm not sure how useful it would be to an average thief.
