Is there a code modification that can be made without voiding the warranty that would permanently disable this useless feature and gross annoyance?

It causes unnecessary wear and tear on the starter and maybe the engine since oil drains back into the pan thus providing no lubrication at re-start. You’ll save precious little fuel idling for 10 sec under no load, and thus lower emissions, compared to the re-start that revs the engine to 1,600 rpm.

Starter systems used in vehicles with start-stop are not the same as those used in normal vehicles. They are specifically designed for this use case, so the wear and tear isn't really substantiated. Also, the data behind the fuel/emissions savings backs up it does actually help.



But disregarding that, you have two options. Shove a piece of card stock in next to the button to hold it in the depressed state or get creative with some wiring. Permanently shorting across the button should probably do it.

BMW has been using the engine stop tech for over a decade now. If you look up BMW those BMW, starters pretty much outlasted the cars.

My 2013 Audi Q5 had the same engine stop feature. Never had a problem with it. However, it did have a button to turn that feature off. Always left it on for 59,000 miles
