What I Drive
2020 Hyundai Palisade
#1
I own a 2020 Hyper White Palisade awd Limited with Light Beige leather that I took delivery of in January 2020. The car stays garaged a lot of the time and has not been driven a large amount since new. In 12 months of ownership we have only driven it 3900 miles. About 6-8 weeks after taking delivery, about the time that the new car smell started to wear off, we noticed the interior odor which was quite offensive. If the vehicle was left parked in the sun, it was really strong. I started researching the forums online and reading where other owners of Palisades were experiencing the same issue.I contacted Hyundai customer service by phone in October of 2020 and they opened a case and the representative that I spoke with said that Hyundai was aware of the problem and that they were working on a solution at that time. I waited and kept reading more posts on this forum and other sources online by people with the same issue and where a lot of owners of other Palisades had traced the problem to the headrests. I then tried removing the headrests from my Palisade and left it parked outside of the garage for 2 days. It had no interior odor with the headrests removed. I then read where Hyundai had traced the odor problem to the foam and materials used in the headrests that were supplied by one source and they were changing the supplier. Hyundai then released a technical service bulletin instructing the dealers to attempt to first treat the headrests of Palisades with the interior odor complaint at least two times with an odor neutralizer specified in the bulletin and if that did not work, replace the headrests. I then contacted the service director of the dealer where I purchased the Palisade. I let them know that I have no desire to have an inferior material or manufacturing defect attempt to be covered up with chemicals and that would require more inconvenience to me with multiple trips to the dealer in the process. The dealer on my behalf contacted the Hyundai Parts and Service director who authorized replacing all six headrests that were ordered and replaced by the dealer. It has now been five weeks since the headrest replacement and there is no odor in the vehicle at all except for a slight leather smell that is pleasant. The Palisade is the third Hyundai that I have purchased from Key Hyundai in Jacksonville, Florida and they have always been a pleasure to work with in sales and service. The Palisade is definitely an excellent value and a very nice vehicle to own as long as the interior odor problem is no longer an issue.
